This dog is currently out of state but will be transported to New England shortly with no additional travel costs. The long distance adoption process includes talking to the foster they are living with in the south. Roughly 90% of our dogs are successfully long distance adopted and 10% adopted locally.
**Please read Osa's entire profile, which includes a link to the adoption application at the end. Thank you!**
Please note in the photos that Osa is a long haired dog. We had to shave her to get all the matts out but the hair will grow back! She is such an adorable shaggy lovebug and her name means "Baby Girl Bear" in Spanish! When shaved down, she is silky soft. But, any new family for Osa should be ready for grooming.
Meet Osa - an 8 year old, 57 pound, Old English Sheepdog/Bedlington Terrier mix gal.
Sweet Osa was rescued on the streets of Mexico when a wonderful woman saw her hit by a car and lying injured in the road. Luckily she was taken to a Sanctuary outside Mexico City and given treatment.
When visiting the Sanctuary, our Directors met her and fell instantly in love! They could not leave this sweet girl behind and flew her home to Boston with them.
She is now living with a local family who have kids and other dogs and they adore her! The foster family says she fit right in and loves everyone who loves her. She's quiet and only whines when she gets excited. She loves other dogs…..seems to just like being around them. She will snuggle with humans and dogs alike or just chill on the carpet. She's content laying around during the day.
She walks well on a leash, is both housebroken and crate trained, and just truly appreciates all the goodness she is now being shown.
Overall, great for someone who wants a loving sweet dog that mostly just requires love and attention. Minimal activity needed.
Despite a hard life, Osa does not have a mean bone in her body and deserves all the love in the world. She does not beg for food, listens well and is a perfect angel in the car.
Osa was hit by a car (per our vet, likely more than once). Hence, she walks with a limp, but she keeps up just fine and loves walks. However Osa will need calcium and bone supplements to keep her healthy.
All dogs are up to date on vaccinations and spayed/neutered at the time of adoption. All dogs require professional training to become the best family member they can be.

PLEASE READ: If a dog is listed, then s/he is currently available for adoption. Their information is correct to the best of our abilities and the information we have been given as of the day of posting. From time to time we receive new information/photos of a dog and we do recreate their listing, which means their old listing link will no longer be valid. If you are considering a dog but don't apply right away please make sure to search for the dog by name if the link you have no longer works.
Please note, GDRNE does not guarantee the breed of any dog or puppy unless stated that we have run DNA. All breeds listed are educated estimates. Note that if the dog is listed as an "Out of town pet" there are NOT additional transport fees - it is included in our adoption fee Our dogs are rescued from various situations. It is most likely that both their parents were strays and even if not, mixes of some sort and that their grandparents were mixes as well. The dog may have some genetic material of an American Staffordshire Terrier (pit bull). The dogs are usually mixes of many breeds, making them a breed all their own - a True and adorable American MUTT. If you are interested in this dog, you must submit an application. Great Dog is not a shelter so there is no building you can visit. Our dogs live in private foster homes until adopted.
