This dog is currently out of state but will be transported to New England shortly with no additional travel costs. The long distance adoption process includes talking to the foster they are living with in the south. Roughly 90% of our dogs are successfully long distance adopted and 10% adopted locally.

Meet Kirby - a 5 month old, Shepherd mix, who weighs 40 pounds (as of 7/13/25). Kirby was pulled from a shelter in Alabama after they had rescued him after finding him as a stray under a bridge. Initially he was scared and unsure, but his personality has completely blossomed in our care and this sweet boy is ready to find his forever family!

His foster shares: "Kirby is a fun-loving, energetic, and eager to please Shepherd mix guy. He is a happy & playful pup who is ready to find his forever home. His favorite activities include: using his sniffer to explore, tossing and chasing his favorite ball, and rolling in the grass (rain or shine). He loves spending time outdoors and has done well around chickens, other dogs, and kids and has demonstrated a calm and friendly nature and can be somewhat even timid at times! This smart boy is already off to a great start with training: he knows how to sit, lie down, and walks nicely on a leash. He’s crate trained and continues to work on potty training. Kirby is going to make someone or some family incredibly happy and is ready to be your loyal BFF!"

All dogs are up to date on vaccinations and spayed/neutered at the time of adoption. All dogs require professional training to become the best family member they can be.

It is most likely that both their parents were strays and even if not, mixes of some sort and that their grandparents were mixes as well. The dog may have some genetic material of an American Staffordshire Terrier (pit bull). The dogs are usually mixes of many breeds, making them a breed all their own - a True and adorable American MUTT. If you are interested in this dog, you must submit an application. Great Dog is not a shelter so there is no building you can visit. Our dogs live in private foster homes until adopted.
