Meet Spotfire - a 5 1/2 month old, Catahoula Leopard Dog mix, who weighed 40 pounds (as of 9/30/25). This speckled cutie was found as a stray in Mississippi and is ready to find his forever home!
UPDATE from his NE foster home: Spot Fire is everything you could want in a pup! He’s friendly, well-behaved, calm, dog-friendly, great with kids, potty-trained, crate trained, excellent on car rides, enjoys hikes and lakes… Need I say more?
If you don’t want the little puppy puddles or craziness and you are looking for a move-in ready good boy, you just found your guy! He is good on a leash (no pulling or zigzagging) and has enjoyed hiking in the woods and playing in the lake.
He likes to collect his toys and bring them all in his bed. He goes to bed nicely in his crate and sleeps great through the night. Sometimes, Spot Fire will even go nap in his crate on his own. He enjoys the couch too though and is a great snuggler. He likes asking for belly rubs. He’s a very affectionate and gentle dog.
He is very friendly with other dogs and is happy to be with them. He’s not cat-tested with us however he is unfazed by the goats, tortoise, and iguana.
He’s really good on car rides and sits still or lays down. Spot Fire still needs some basic commands training but he’s already got down all the important things. He’s so ‘go with the flow’ that I think he’d be happy in most any household. Someone will be really lucky to end up with him!
His Southern foster shares: "Spotfire is a gorgeous, fun loving, Catahoula mix! He has the best personality, and is outgoing, loving, sweet and playful. We know he will make the best friend fur-ever. Spotfire loves meeting new people and going on adventures with his humans. He also enjoys playing outside and snuggling. He's still young and will need a patient and loving home who can continue his training. He is wonderful with children and would be a paw-fect addition to your family!"
All dogs are up to date on vaccinations and spayed/neutered at the time of adoption. All dogs require professional training to become the best family member they can be.

PLEASE READ: If a dog is listed, then s/he is currently available for adoption. Their information is correct to the best of our abilities and the information we have been given as of the day of posting. From time to time we receive new information/photos of a dog and we do recreate their listing, which means their old listing link will no longer be valid. If you are considering a dog but don't apply right away please make sure to search for the dog by name if the link you have no longer works.
Please note, GDRNE does not guarantee the breed of any dog or puppy unless stated that we have run DNA. All breeds listed are educated estimates. Note that if the dog is listed as an "Out of town pet" there are NOT additional transport fees - it is included in our adoption fee Our dogs are rescued from various situations. It is most likely that both their parents were strays and even if not, mixes of some sort and that their grandparents were mixes as well. The dog may have some genetic material of an American Staffordshire Terrier (pit bull). The dogs are usually mixes of many breeds, making them a breed all their own - a True and adorable American MUTT. If you are interested in this dog, you must submit an application. Great Dog is not a shelter so there is no building you can visit. Our dogs live in private foster homes until adopted.
