Meet Chico - a 2 yr old, Boxer / Bull Terrier mix, who weighs 70 pounds (as of 10/2/25). According to his records, this boy was born on 5/7/23. Chico is a special boy who is deaf but is an absolute delight! He was surrendered to us by his previous owner who could no longer afford to properly care for him. This was an incredibly difficult decision for her because she loves this sweet boy dearly. His previous owner has had Chico since he was a pup, and she has worked with him on hand signals to help with communication!
UPDATE from Chico's new foster dad: Chico is an incredibly sweet, affectionate, and social young dog who warmed up to us right away. He absolutely loves being around people and other dogs—he’ll greet you with a happy tail and a big smile every time.
Chico is deaf, but you’d never know it from how well he adapts. He’s very observant and intuitive, watching closely for body language and hand gestures to pick up on what’s going on. The only thing his hearing loss really changes is that he sleeps like a log!
He’s house-trained, crate-trained, and sleeps soundly through the night. He’s got a nice balance of playful energy and quiet chill vibes. He loves walks, exploring the yard, playtime, and he’s also totally content to take a long nap! He’s eager to please and learns quickly, especially when treats or praise are involved!
When he first arrived he was so excited to meet everyone and would jump up for attention, but within a day he had already learned to keep all four paws on the ground. Chico would be a wonderful fit for someone who wants a loving, playful, young dog, and wants to skip the potty-training stages of puppyhood!
He’d thrive in a home where he gets plenty of affection, structure, and time outdoors.
This gorgeous boy has been posted for over 1 YEAR, let's get him home!

PLEASE READ: If a dog is listed, then s/he is currently available for adoption. Their information is correct to the best of our abilities and the information we have been given as of the day of posting. From time to time we receive new information/photos of a dog and we do recreate their listing, which means their old listing link will no longer be valid. If you are considering a dog but don't apply right away please make sure to search for the dog by name if the link you have no longer works.
Please note, GDRNE does not guarantee the breed of any dog or puppy unless stated that we have run DNA. All breeds listed are educated estimates. Note that if the dog is listed as an "Out of town pet" there are NOT additional transport fees - it is included in our adoption fee Our dogs are rescued from various situations. It is most likely that both their parents were strays and even if not, mixes of some sort and that their grandparents were mixes as well. The dog may have some genetic material of an American Staffordshire Terrier (pit bull). The dogs are usually mixes of many breeds, making them a breed all their own - a True and adorable American MUTT. If you are interested in this dog, you must submit an application. Great Dog is not a shelter so there is no building you can visit. Our dogs live in private foster homes until adopted.
