Meet Rosa - a 6 year old, tiny Hairless Pocket Chihuahua (officially known as a Chihuahua de Bolsillo), who weighs a whopping 2.8lbs and is fully grown (as of 11/15/25). Rosa came from a horrible backyard breeder/hoarding situation in Tennessee. Great Dog Rescue and our southern partner were brought in to save many of these dogs after the local police shut the place down. Thank goodness!
Her foster shares: "Typical of her breed and small stature, Rosa is very nervous when first meeting new people. But she does not have a mean bone in her body and once you cuddle her in and let her know if she is safe, she is very sweet and happy to be snuggled. If you have ever wanted a perfect purse sized dog… That is Rosa! She loves a glamorous warm sweater and to be safe and secure with a loving human. To the best of our knowledge Rosa has never met a cat. Due to her size she probably could not hurt one, but could be scared of them. She was raised with multiple other small dogs and tends to be fine with them and loves another small dog who will snuggle with her and keep her warm. Due to being so tiny and fragile, we would not recommend Rosa to a home with small children or large dogs. This little lady is ready to find her forever home!"
A few things to consider for Rosa's safety if you want to be her family:
- Skin protection: They are more susceptible to sunburn and need to be protected from the sun.
- Temperature sensitivity: Their lack of fur makes them vulnerable to extreme temperatures, so they may need to wear sweaters or coats in cold weather and seek shade in hot weather.
All dogs are up to date on vaccinations and spayed/neutered at the time of adoption. All dogs require professional training to become the best family member they can be.
To adopt or learn more about Rosa, you must fill out an adoption application. To find the application, copy and paste this URL into your browser: WWW.GDRNE.COM/ADOPTION-APPLICATION [Adoption Fee: $495] **
PLEASE READ: If a dog is listed, then s/he is currently available for adoption. Their information is correct to the best of our abilities and the information we have been given as of the day of posting. From time to time we receive new information/photos of a dog and we do recreate their listing, which means their old listing link will no longer be valid. If you are considering a dog but don't apply right away please make sure to search for the dog by name if the link you have no longer works.
Please note, GDRNE does not guarantee the breed of any dog or puppy unless stated that we have run DNA. All breeds listed are educated estimates. Note that if the dog is listed as an "Out of town pet" there are NOT additional transport fees - it is included in our adoption fee Our dogs are rescued from various situations. It is most likely that both their parents were strays and even if not, mixes of some sort and that their grandparents were mixes as well. The dog may have some genetic material of an American Staffordshire Terrier (pit bull). The dogs are usually mixes of many breeds, making them a breed all their own - a True and adorable American MUTT. If you are interested in this dog, you must submit an application. Great Dog is not a shelter so there is no building you can visit. Our dogs live in private foster homes until adopted.
