Meet Poppi - a two year old, Chihuahua mix, who weighs a whopping 5 pounds (as of 11/15/25). Poppi was rescued as part of a operation to shut down a backyard breeder/hoarding situation in Tennessee. The police were called in to close down this negligent and abusive operation and Great Dog Rescue, along with our southern partner, stepped up to bring these dogs to Massachusetts and give them loving homes.
Her foster shares: Poppi is still very shy and scared, but she’s slowly warming up. She is housebroken and hasn’t had any accidents inside. She sleeps well in the crate at night. She hasn’t shown us much of her personality yet. Once she gets comfortable, we will update her bio.
"Typical to her breed, Poppi is very nervous when first meeting new people. But she does not have a mean bone in her body and warms up quickly when you snuggle her into your chest and gives her love. Poppi is unusually quiet for her breed and seems to just want someone to love her. She has been well behaved during her isolation period and is noted to be observant. She enjoys a warm sweater and would be perfect for dressing up in designer outfits! Due to her sad upbringing, Poppi has not yet been trained and does not know commands. So she will need a loving family who is willing to help her train to be the best family member she can be! She's a little lady with a big heart!"
All dogs are up to date on vaccinations and spayed/neutered at the time of adoption. All dogs require professional training to become the best family member they can be.
To adopt or learn more about Poppi, you must fill out an adoption application. To find the application, copy and paste this URL into your browser: WWW.GDRNE.COM/ADOPTION-APPLICATION [Adoption Fee: $495] **
PLEASE READ: If a dog is listed, then s/he is currently available for adoption. Their information is correct to the best of our abilities and the information we have been given as of the day of posting. From time to time we receive new information/photos of a dog and we do recreate their listing, which means their old listing link will no longer be valid. If you are considering a dog but don't apply right away please make sure to search for the dog by name if the link you have no longer works.
Please note, GDRNE does not guarantee the breed of any dog or puppy unless stated that we have run DNA. All breeds listed are educated estimates. Note that if the dog is listed as an "Out of town pet" there are NOT additional transport fees - it is included in our adoption fee Our dogs are rescued from various situations. It is most likely that both their parents were strays and even if not, mixes of some sort and that their grandparents were mixes as well. The dog may have some genetic material of an American Staffordshire Terrier (pit bull). The dogs are usually mixes of many breeds, making them a breed all their own - a True and adorable American MUTT. If you are interested in this dog, you must submit an application. Great Dog is not a shelter so there is no building you can visit. Our dogs live in private foster homes until adopted.
