~Rusty Emerald has been posted for a year, his adoption fee has been reduced to $395~

Meet Rusty Emerald - a year old Lab/Mountain Cur mix, who weighs around 45 pounds (as of 3/17/25). He and his sister were found as strays trying to fend for themselves before a wonderful couple scooped them up and came to their rescue. Unfortunately, Rusty somehow broke his leg and had to have his left front leg amputated.

His foster mom shares "Rusty is a lover once he understands you are not going to harm him. He is busy during the day and goes to sleep in the evening around 7 or 8 lying on the couch next to me like a little baby. Rusty would really like another dog or person who would spend time playing with him. He also can entertain himself. He loves his toys and to chew on bones and hard toys and also likes the soft ones. Rusty would love to go on hiking adventures and to sniff out all those glorious smells.

He can be scared of new people until he understands they are ok. But he settles in once he knows he can trust you. Rusty has been through so much it is understandable. It will just take time, more socialization, and patience to help him be more comfortable with new people and situations. Once Rusty loves you he is all about love and snuggles!!! We think because of this he would do best in a quieter household with teens or older family members so there isn't a lot of noise and chaos as he settles in. He is not at all aggressive.

Rusty walks well on a leash and sits for treats and for his meals. He is house trained and crate trained. He is smart and would like to learn more obedience commands. Rusty is a super fun guy and the perfect family for him is out there somewhere. This boy is quite a gem!”

All dogs are up to date on vaccinations and spayed/neutered at the time of adoption. All dogs require professional training to become the best family member they can be.

Their information is correct to the best of our abilities and the information we have been given as of the day of posting. Note that if the dog is listed as an "Out of town pet" there are NOT additional transport fees - it is included in our adoption fee Our dogs are rescued from various situations. It is most likely that both their parents were strays and even if not, mixes of some sort and that their grandparents were mixes as well. The dog may have some genetic material of an American Staffordshire Terrier (pit bull). The dogs are usually mixes of many breeds, making them a breed all their own - a True and adorable American MUTT. If you are interested in this dog, you must submit an application. Great Dog is not a shelter so there is no building you can visit. Our dogs live in private foster homes until adopted.
