Meet Mowgli - a 4 year old (turning 5 YO on 11/18), Black Lab mix, who weighs 55 pounds (as of 3/24/25). He was previously living in a loving home, but due to unforeseen circumstances, his previous owners had to surrender him due to life changes where they could no longer care for this sweet boy.
At first Mowgli may be a bit shy with you, but overtime you will become best friends!! Once that happens be prepared to have someone you can wander with, someone to roam with. And definitely someone to cuddle with, as Mowgli likes being with his people whether it be hanging out in the yard, cuddling on the couch or sleeping in bed at night.
He needs to trust his human will be there to protect him. Mowgli had a family, but the environment was unstable, that is when he was surrendered to GDRNE. Mowgli will need you to be his mentor and protector and he will be the most loyal dog.
Unlike the human boy in the Jungle, Mowgli has very good manners. He knows sit, and is working on other basic commands. When Mowgli came to the rescue, he showed a little fear being on the leash but he has done great working towards knowing the leash means fun and not fear.
Mowgli does not try to escape the yard, and has good recall when told to come, so he would love a big fenced in yard!
Mowgli does not jump on kitchen counters or the table, but will sit at your feet while you cook or eat dinner. He is potty trained, does well when left alone and does not need to be crated.
Momo, as we call him, can be a little goofball! He loves to flop on his back and wiggle and get belly rubs.
Mowgli loves his foster kitty friend and his foster doggy sister. Momo would do great with another dog in the home, as he gains confidence when with his foster doggy sister. It's definitely not a requirement, as he would love to be the center of his families universe too.
He is 100% potty trained and crate trained but he does not need to be in a crate when he's left alone. Mowgli loves his teenage human foster siblings and being his foster dad’s work from home office assistant! He even loves his foster’s cat!
He is such an amazing and loving dog! Anyone who would welcome Mowgli into your home would have nothing but laughter and unconditional love. He is simply just an amazing and happy dog and is sure to give you a lifetime of love, laughter and companionship!
MEDICAL Disclosure: Mowgli was born with pulmonic stenosis which means the valve that leads from the right lower chamber (ventricle) to the pulmonary artery is fused, so the right ventricle has to work harder to pump blood through the narrowed artery. This condition has already caused that section of the heart to be moderately thickened. Mowgli takes Atenolol, which he will likely need to take for life. After being on the medication for 6 months, he’ll have another check-up to determine if he needs a minimally invasive surgery called balloon valvularplasty. Our hope is that he does not need it.
All dogs are up to date on vaccinations and spayed/neutered at the time of adoption. All dogs require professional training to become the best family member they can be.

PLEASE READ: If a dog is listed, then s/he is currently available for adoption. Their information is correct to the best of our abilities and the information we have been given as of the day of posting. From time to time we receive new information/photos of a dog and we do recreate their listing, which means their old listing link will no longer be valid. If you are considering a dog but don't apply right away please make sure to search for the dog by name if the link you have no longer works.
Please note, GDRNE does not guarantee the breed of any dog or puppy unless stated that we have run DNA. All breeds listed are educated estimates. Note that if the dog is listed as an "Out of town pet" there are NOT additional transport fees - it is included in our adoption fee Our dogs are rescued from various situations. It is most likely that both their parents were strays and even if not, mixes of some sort and that their grandparents were mixes as well. The dog may have some genetic material of an American Staffordshire Terrier (pit bull). The dogs are usually mixes of many breeds, making them a breed all their own - a True and adorable American MUTT. If you are interested in this dog, you must submit an application. Great Dog is not a shelter so there is no building you can visit. Our dogs live in private foster homes until adopted. To learn more about our *shelterless* rescue, adoption fees, and procedures, review the list of Frequently Asked Questions on our website at WWW.GDRNE.COM.
