Meet Lazarus - a just over 1 year old, Plott Hound mix, who weighs about 55 pounds (as of 2/9/25). This sweet boy was sadly abandoned and left alone in a house for over 2 weeks without food and water. We were able to rescue him after a 911 call that alerted us of his neglect. We are happy we were able to rescue Lazarus while he still had a fighting chance, because unfortunately, we did not make it in time to save his sister.

This boy has been waiting two months already to find his people and we are hoping someone sees this and takes a chance on this sweet boy. We know his pictures aren't amazing - but trust us he is handsome as can be and such a love!!

His foster shares: "This boy is wonderful and it's been amazing to watch him grow stronger since entering our care. When we first rescued him he was severely malnourished and only weighed 30 pounds. We are happy to report that he is now 55+ pounds... and growing! He's a happy boy who is doing so much better and is now ready to find his forever family. Lazarus is a talker, and has some separation anxiety - which makes sense after previously being abandoned. He's an office dog and hangs out with us during the day and is quickly learning that not all humans are mean. He can be scared meeting new people, but with slow introductions, he's becoming a very loving boy! All Lazarus is looking for is a family to love and spoil him. He does get along great with other dogs and we aren't sure about his previous interactions with cats. This boy who was previously sad and starved, is now happy and healthy and looking for a second chance at finding a loving home!"

All dogs are up to date on vaccinations and spayed/neutered at the time of adoption. All dogs require professional training to become the best family member they can be.

PLEASE READ: If a dog is listed, then s/he is currently available for adoption. Their information is correct to the best of our abilities and the information we have been given as of the day of posting. From time to time we receive new information/photos of a dog and we do recreate their listing, which means their old listing link will no longer be valid. If you are considering a dog but don't apply right away please make sure to search for the dog by name if the link you have no longer works.

Please note, GDRNE does not guarantee the breed of any dog or puppy unless stated that we have run DNA. All breeds listed are educated estimates. Note that if the dog is listed as an "Out of town pet" there are NOT additional transport fees - it is included in our adoption fee Our dogs are rescued from various situations. It is most likely that both their parents were strays and even if not, mixes of some sort and that their grandparents were mixes as well. The dog may have some genetic material of an American Staffordshire Terrier (pit bull). The dogs are usually mixes of many breeds, making them a breed all their own - a True and adorable American MUTT. If you are interested in this dog, you must submit an application. Great Dog is not a shelter so there is no building you can visit. Our dogs live in private foster homes until adopted.
