Meet Lucy Lu - an almost 11 month old, Carolina Dog / Basenji mix, who weighs 48 pounds (as of 3/10/25). This sweet girl was found as a stray and is looking for a forever family to call her own! And she has been looking for more than 2 months now which makes us sad :(

Meet Lucy Lu!
Lucy Lu is a delightful girl with a heart full of love and an eagerness to please! This sweet pup thrives on outdoor adventures, especially playing fetch and exploring the world around her. With her friendly nature, she gets along well with cats and enjoys the company of dogs of all sizes—though her absolute favorite playmates are older kids.
Once Lucy Lu warms up to you, which doesn’t take long, she transforms into an affectionate cuddle bug who craves attention and companionship. While she’s still learning the ropes of leash walking and house training, she’s eager to soak up all the guidance you can provide. Though she hasn’t had much experience living indoors, she’s excited about the prospect of a cozy home and the love of a family.
With her playful and spirited personality, Lucy Lu is ready to join a family that can take her on fun adventures and shower her with love. It is most likely that both their parents were strays and even if not, mixes of some sort and that their grandparents were mixes as well. The dog may have some genetic material of an American Staffordshire Terrier (pit bull). The dogs are usually mixes of many breeds, making them a breed all their own - a True and adorable American MUTT. If you are interested in this dog, you must submit an application. Great Dog is not a shelter so there is no building you can visit. Our dogs live in private foster homes until adopted.
