Meet Darby - a 4 year old, Standard Poodle, who weighs 42 pounds (as of 5/1/25). Darby is an absolutely gorgeous black and white with ticking CKC registered Standard Poodle. She is 26 inches tall and currently underweight. We know she will blossom on a balanced diet which she has started since entering our care.

Her foster shares: "Darby is a little timid at first but quickly becomes very sweet and loving. She loves to collect toys and store them all around her. She has been living with other dogs that are her size and is fine with them. She was groomed super short as her coat had not been maintained and she had been living outdoors. With regular grooming and TLC, we know she will look like a show dog in no time!! Since she has spent her life living outdoors, she will need a patient family who can work with her on her training but she is coming along quickly and does well if taken outside regularly. She will sit for treats and is extremely food motivated. She is learning to walk on a leash and loves to run in a fenced backyard.

All dogs are up to date on vaccinations and spayed/neutered at the time of adoption. All dogs require professional training to become the best family member they can be.

It is most likely that both their parents were strays and even if not, mixes of some sort and that their grandparents were mixes as well. The dog may have some genetic material of an American Staffordshire Terrier (pit bull). The dogs are usually mixes of many breeds, making them a breed all their own - a True and adorable American MUTT. If you are interested in this dog, you must submit an application. Great Dog is not a shelter so there is no building you can visit. Our dogs live in private foster homes until adopted.
