Star deserves a STAR of an adopter! Your heart is about to break as you read her story. Star had a home and her former family locked her in a closet and then sold the house they were in and just left here there to starve. The new owners found her and brought her to rescue. So it makes sense that Star is reserved and very cautious. But you can tell she wants so much to trust people again. She will just need an experienced owner to be patient with her and show her that they are always going to take care of her and never leave her.

This girl is a true star and has a heart that shines even brighter!

Meet Star Bright - a 2 year old, Boxer / Black Lab mix, who weighs 51 pounds (as of 3/3/25). This girl's light had been dimmed by her previous owners after they abandoned her during their move. When the new family who purchased the home moved in, they discovered Star Bright locked in a closet. Despite her sad story, this girl is still a shining star!

Her foster shares: "Star Bright is incredibly loving and very playful! You can see from her video that she's very active and LOVES to run and play fetch. She enjoys being around other pups, and even had a sleepover with two smaller doggy friends who were under 25 pounds. She is very friendly when she meets new people and makes friends everywhere she goes! She's briefly been exposed to cats since being in our care, and does not seem interested in them. It also appears that she is housebroken, knows basic commands (like 'sit' and 'lay down'), and comes to her name when she is called! If you are ready to brighten up your life, look no further than Star Bright!"

All dogs are up to date on vaccinations and spayed/neutered at the time of adoption. All dogs require professional training to become the best family member they can be.

PLEASE READ: If a dog is listed, then s/he is currently available for adoption. Their information is correct to the best of our abilities and the information we have been given as of the day of posting. From time to time we receive new information/photos of a dog and we do recreate their listing, which means their old listing link will no longer be valid. If you are considering a dog but don't apply right away please make sure to search for the dog by name if the link you have no longer works.

Please note, GDRNE does not guarantee the breed of any dog or puppy unless stated that we have run DNA. All breeds listed are educated estimates. Note that if the dog is listed as an "Out of town pet" there are NOT additional transport fees - it is included in our adoption fee Our dogs are rescued from various situations. It is most likely that both their parents were strays and even if not, mixes of some sort and that their grandparents were mixes as well. The dog may have some genetic material of an American Staffordshire Terrier (pit bull). The dogs are usually mixes of many breeds, making them a breed all their own - a True and adorable American MUTT. If you are interested in this dog, you must submit an application. Great Dog is not a shelter so there is no building you can visit. Our dogs live in private foster homes until adopted.
